One hundred companies offering to write off debts or secure personal injury compensation have been shut down by the Ministry of Justice since April 2007. MoJ spokesman Kevin Rousell said they had been guilty of making misleading claims and using.

Two price comparison websites are to be shut by Lloyds Banking Group just 14 months after their launch. Lloydstsbcompare.com, which provides quotes for motor insurance and energy suppliers, and insurance.co.uk, which compares quotes for motorbikes.

Gas owner Centrica said its residential profits have risen 80% in the first half of the year due to last year's price hikes and a colder than average winter. The energy giant reported operating profits of £299 million for the six months to June 30th.
